Smaller Dell Optiplex Computers (7040, 7050 and 7060) & Latitude Ultrabooks
These computers are designed to be more slim line than older style Desktop towers and base units and as such have no space for a disc drive to be built into the laptop or base unit itself. On request in advance of your session, you can request to use our Buffalo USB disk drives or a Kodi based media laptop. These pieces of equipment are located in each centre and are signed out on a first come, first served basis.
For the Buffalo USB based disc drives, the USB supplied around the outer edge of the unit must be connected to an available USB port on the base unit, or Local monitor. The light on the top should turn green once the PC has recognised the drive and installed the drivers for it. Should the light turn red, please also insert the second USB cable on the bottom of the player into an available to provide extra power. Once this is complete, press the button on the front to eject the drive, Place the disc onto the central mount and apply some light pressure to clip the disk in place. Finally close the drawer (an audible click will register the drawer closing).
Next Steps
Finally, open either VLC Media Player, Windows Media Player (Windows 7 Ultrabooks) or Videos (Windows 10 Desktops) and launch your disc to display or hear your content.
- In VLC Media Player this can be achieved by selecting the Media menu at the top of the program and choosing Open Disc. In the dialog that appears choose your type of disc using the bulleted options, then press the Play button at the bottom of the dialog, leave the other options at their default.
- In Windows Media Player, select this icon to go to the library mode if required. Now locate and select your disc in the left hand pane (should have a round disc icon to the left of the name) and double click to start it. If needed, select the icon in the bottom right corner to return to the media mode.
The logos featured on each drive where available will explain what type of discs it is capable of reading and the format of each disc. For More information, please check out this article by Disc Wizards on CD Formats and DVD Formats.
